How to make your own string art
Upload a photo and my software calculates the best threading sequence. Once you have the perfect design, unlocking your sequence costs £8.99.
Try it with your photoBoard preparation
A typical piece takes 5-10 hours to string.
What you need
- A boardWhite canvas or white painted MDF. It needs to hold nails.
- NailsThe ones I use are 1.8mm wide and 30mm long. I use 200 nails for a 50cm circle.
- ThreadBlack nylon monofilament. 0.1mm gives the finest detail.
- A hammer and a printerThe template prints on A4. You can mark by hand instead.
How to make it
- 1Upload a photo and tune the design until you like it.
- 2Unlock the sequence with your token and download the nail template.
- 3Print the template, tape the pages together and trim to your board.
- 4Hammer a nail at every marked position, then peel the paper away.
- 5Tie the thread to nail 0 and wrap each nail in the order the assistant shows.
- 6Congratulations - you just finished your custom art piece! (PS please send me a photo)
What an unlock gets you
The stringing sequence
Every nail, in order. Usually a few thousand lines, as a plain text file you own.
A printable nail template
Sized to your board, so every nail lands where the design expects it.
The stringing assistant
Follow along on your phone. It remembers your progress automatically.
Unlocks never expire. Buy two or three at once if you are making more than one.
Why the board size matters
My generator models the real thread: how thick it is, and how much of the board each line covers. That is why the preview matches the finished piece, and why I ask for your board size and nail count. A pattern made for a 480mm board with 200 nails will not look the same strung on a 600mm one.

Rather I made it for you?
Finished pieces are £175, strung on a 50cm board and ready to hang, with free UK delivery.
